Licensing Agreement:

So let’s keep this simple.

For Individuals who hire me:  The headshot and portrait photos that we take are for your personal and professional use.  That means you can share them on social media, use them in promotional materials online and in print (including billboards), for your company/organization bios, and articles that you have written.  This license does not have an expiration date.   But there are some exceptions.

For Companies that hire me:   For headshot or portrait photos taken for your employees, as a company you have broad licensing for use as mentioned above, and that extends to the subject as well to use personally also mentioned above.    The company does not by default have the intellectual property (or copyright) of the photo.  That can be negotiated as needed.

For use in publications, we should be credited with having taken the photo, except for very small bio headshots, where copyright notice/credits are not standardly given.

Exceptions:  Use that is subject to additional licensing fees and royalties:   Special permission and applicable fees come into play for what the standard is in the industry.  This includes journalistic works, book artwork, album artwork, etc., and photos from more involved shoots that are use in national or regional advertising campaigns,

For Companies that want to use an employee’s photo that was initially paid for by another employer:  Payment of a licensing fee is required for you to legally use the photo, unless the prior employer additionally purchased the IP/copyright of the photo from us previously.

Any questions on the above, please don’t hesitate to ask.
