Eric Yarnell, VP Pharmacy Services, Gateway Health
Eric Yarnell is Vice President of Pharmacy Services for Gateway Health. Mr. Yarnell has over 25 years of pharmacy management experience. He has direct responsibility for the medication needs in a diversified 600,000+ members across Gateway’s PA Medicaid Plan; Gateway Medicare Assured Plans; West Virginia Family Health (WVFH); and Highmark Health Options, Delaware Medicaid. Areas of expertise range from initiatives in drug cost management, revenue enhancement, value-based contracting, employee productivity, provider and physician alliances, educational advancement, clinical applications and pharmacy care-management.
His prior experience includes acute academic and community hospital settings where he worked for Allegheny Health Network (AHN), formerly West Penn Allegheny Health System. As Director of Pharmacy, he was responsible for all medication use and safety measures across his organizations and created a model and business plan for implementing pharmacist medication reconciliation and a bedside discharge prescription program in the hospital to improve patient medication adherence and related outcomes.
Mr. Yarnell is currently adjunct clinical instructor at Duquesne University School of Pharmacy and is a member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacists. He previously served on the PA Medicaid HealthChoices DUR Board and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee as well as the Delaware Division of Medicaid and Medical Assistance Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Mr. Yarnell holds a master’s degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon, a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Duquesne University, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from California University of Pennsylvania.
